David O’Mahony capped off the most successful year of a Club Captain in the history of Tehidy Park Golf Club when he guided his team to victory by a margin of 12 shots.
The Cornwall Golf Union Maxam Cup format sees a team of six (x3 foursomes) play 36 holes medal, with the best two scores (gross) from three to count in the morning & afternoon.
Played at St. Enodoc in benign conditions, competitors were heard to say that the course was presented in near perfect conditions.
First out for Tehidy Park was the pairing of Richard & Peter Simmons, who gave the team a perfect foundation to build on with a score of 73. John Piner & Ian Veale then added a valuable 71 to record a lunch time lead of 5 shots and a total of 144.
The final pairing of Colin George & Andrew Clotworthy showed all of their experience to salvage a score of 78, after having dropped 5 shots in their opening three holes.
The afternoon rounds proved to be even better for the Tehidy Park team when the Simmons brothers added a 70, and although Piner & Veale fell away with a 75, the team score was bettered when George & Clotworthy recorded a 72 for an afternoon total of 142.
The prize giving got even better for the Tehidy Park team as the Simmons brothers were presented with the prize for the best individual score of any pair (143), with Piner & Veale 3rd on 146.
