Tehidy Park Golf Club overcame the potential ‘banana skin’ that was Perranporth Golf Club in the quarter-final of the Cornwall Team Championship in emphatic style.
Although the Champions of the previous three years lost the first point of the day when the Simmons brothers put in an out of character performance against Conor Wilson & Sandy Kirton, it proved to be the only match they would lose as they won ten and halved two of the remaining twelve games.
The remaining foursomes pairings of Colin George & John Piner, Ian Veale & Aaron Ashcroft and Martin Langford & Nigel James all won, which was backed up with a win from Ross Lawrance in the 9th man singles match.
As the afternoon singles matches got under way it was once again the Simmons brothers who led out the team and they exhibited their resolve by reversing their morning fortunes as Richard beat Sandy Kirton by 4&3 and Peter beat Conor Wilson on the last hole. When Ian Veale won the third game of the afternoon singles against Nic Pepper (4&3) it proved to be the decisive point that would secure the match.
Tehidy, however, were not finished there as Colin George fought hard for a half against Simon Knowles having been two down for most of the match, Aaron Ashcroft beat Trevor Johnston by a score of 4&3, with Martin Langford & Nigel James both winning by two holes against David Harris & Martin Edwards respectively.
When John Piner, playing against Chris Llewelyn agreed upon a halved match it culminated in a 10 ¾ – 2 win for the Champions, who will now play West Cornwall in the semi-final in the New Year.
