Mens County Championship

Tehidy Park players registered a 50% success rate in the 36 hole stroke play qualifier today as two of the four representatives progressed into the match-play stages.

The qualifier sees the top 32 players go through to Thursday morning for the 1st round of the championship and with the 'cut' falling at 159, Peter Simmons (147) & Ian Veale (153) safely found a way through.

It was not however to be such good news for Past County Champion, Richard Simmons (161) or beaten finalist (1983), Andrew Clotworthy (167).

With the 32 competitors awaiting the excitement of the draw for the first round it was to be a cruel twist of fate that awaited the Tehidy Park players as Simmons & Veale were drawn against each other!!

Billy Downing (Truro) goes into the match-play stage as the number 1 seed and favourite to win his first County Championship following a flawless display of golf that saw him post an 8 under par total (136) for the two rounds.
