Tehidy Park relinquished their hold on the ’A’ Team Club Champions title with defeat at the hands of St. Enodoc in the semi-final.
Despite a fantastic victory from Thomas Rowe & Justin Barnard in the top game (15th) against former County Champion, Antony Nash & partner Martin Biddle their heroics could not be matched by their team mates.
Richard & Peter Simmons succumbed to the strength of the pairing of Steve Chapman & Joe Cruse (16th), and with the match delicately poised at one game apiece the final game stood on the 18th tee with the score standing at all square.
Sadly for Tehidy Park Andrew Clotworthy & Ian Veale could not reproduce the form that saw them win the Royal Cornwall Goblets on the opening day of the Championship as they made a bogey five on the final hole. With two putts for victory Rob Davies (playing with Stev Buse) calmly rolled in his putt for a birdie three and a win that would set up a final against their local rivals, Trevose, who accounted for Perranporth in the other semi-final.
Update : St. Enodoc beat Trevose in the final (2 – 1) to claim the title of ’A’ Team Club Champions.
Attention now turns to the individual Championship, which starts tomorrow, with the word that local player Joe Cruse starts as hot favourite, as Tom Fox makes a bid to defend the title he won at St. Austell last year.
