Tuesday 1st October saw our very popular Pink Day – a competition run in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer and it was great to see everyone wearing pink – even the bar staff joining in with their pink shirts. Due to the dreadful weather the competition was shortened to 9 holes but most of us still got extremely wet. The fines were greeted with great good humour and the bucket got heavier as Liz Plechowicz collected them all in. Prize winners were 1st Monica Grigg, Liz Plechowicz and Jane Hollis (going out first certainly helped with regard to the weather as it stayed dry for them until the 8th), 2nd Jill Philips and Sheila Tellam, (a great effort by these two ladies as they were a 2 ball), 3rd Shirley Clark, Liz Shrivell and Rosemary Wedlock with 4th place taken by Sue Houghton, Chris Williams and Lyn Brookes. Many thanks to all the Ladies and the Ladies Section who donated the prizes and raffle prizes so all monies raised would go to the Charity. The day ended with the "Tehidy’s Gone Pink" song performed by the Lady Captain, the Lady Vice and the Lady Vice Elect proving you are never too old to make a fool of yourself! A total of £220.00 was raised.

November 2013 Park Life Volume 2 Issue 1
Thursday 3rd October was our annual AGM which saw the new Club Captain Mr Simon Gregor don his green jacket for the first time and we all wish him and his Vice Captain Mike Fox a great year. The ladies section was well represented as usual. Two days later saw the traditional "Putt Out" in which Graham Sandercock had a tricky 20 yard downhill putt that he almost made and then 4 putted from 8 feet! The new Captains "Drive In" saw Simon drive his first ball 137 yards and produced 7 winners in the sweepstake, Anne Fitz and Esme Thomas being two of the lady winners.
The second round of our yearly Mixed Competition against Truro was on Sunday 6th and ended in a victory for Tehidy retaking the Trophy won by Truro last year – a very satisfying result.
Tuesday 8th was our monthly Medal which also produced our Rose Bowl winner Rosemary Wedlock.
We held the second of our bi-annual Trophy clean on Tuesday 15th and a big thank you to all the ladies who came along and did their bit. Our competition for this Tuesday was scheduled as "Cornwall versus Rest of the World" however we didn’t have enough ladies to form two equally matched teams so the decision was made to hold a "Cornish Day" competition, a bowmaker format with playing partners drawn, a high, medium and low handicap per team. The day proved to be very successful with everyone enjoying the format. The Cornish Pasties and Cream Tea that followed went down extremely well! Winners were Wendy Williams, Rosie Wright and Sheila Tellam, 2nd place went to Pauline Penna, Jane Hollis and Lin O’Keefe with Shirley Clark, Pat Law and Kim Hawkey in 3rd (this was Kim’s first time in the prizes and she was delighted).
Everyone will be delighted to hear that Cygnets Restaurant received another visit from the Environmental Health Officer and has been awarded a 5 star rating, the top award, which is great news. Also Kathy is up for a CHEFS award – Cornwall Healthier Eating & Food Safety, congratulations to her.
9th November is "Explosive Night" at the Club with live music provided by "The Dolphins Fly", book your table now or just come along and enjoy the music.
LADY CAPTAIN’S COLUMN
Hello everyone! Welcome to a new season, I’m sure we will all have a good year.
The AGM as always was well supported and Jane as outgoing Captain gave a comprehensive and very informative Captain’s Report. Thanks to Jane and all the Committee for their hard work.
Next the Putting-Out and Drive-In. To my surprise I did manage a straight drive of 175 yards which Pat Law correctly guessed, £131 was raised to kick start the Sunrise Appeal. Thank you everyone.
Au revoir to Pat and David Law who are leaving us to go to Dorset. They will happily return to visit us in the future.
Finally, don’t be shy, please let me know if you have won any prizes away from home in the season. We all like to hear good news.
WHAT’S ON IN NOVEMBER
Saturday Roll-Ups have started and will be alternating with the Winter League. To be included in the draw make sure you are at the club by 11.30am at the latest. If there are any changes to the timings you will receive an email from Sue Pascoe (Saturday Roll-Up Coordinator). Now is a good time to check with Sue that she has your email address.
The Trelista Mixed Foursomes is scheduled for Sunday 10th and the list is already up on the main notice board.
The first round of the Dawe Cups is on Saturday 23rd, the draw is up on the Locker room notice board if you haven’t already seen it and spotted who your partner is.
A standing ovation was given to Ian Veale on being awarded the "Cornwall’s Golfing Man 2013 Award" for services to Golf at the Cornwall Golf Union Annual Dinner held on Friday 18th at the Hotel Bristol in Newquay. The same event also saw Tehidy’s own Richard Simmons introduced to the audience as the next County Captain of Cornwall; Richard will start his 2 year Captaincy later this year. Congratulations Richard have a great time in office.
The Ladies AGM was held at 6.30pm on Thursday 17th with, as usual, a fantastic turn out by lady members. The High Handicap Cup was awarded to Cath Hewlett who also took 1st place in the Annual Eclectic, runner up was Lin O’Keefe. The Club Prize went to Carol Ryder and the LGU Brooch to Rosemary Wedlock. The Hitchens Cup was presented to Kate Shipman and the West Briton Bowl to Carol Ryder. The new Lady Captain Liz Plechowicz was voted in proudly receiving the Silver Brooch. Jackie Prouse became our new Lady Vice Captain, Jenny Hamilton and Kate Shipman both remained in their posts Honorary Handicap and Competitions Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Louise Eslick was elected as Honorary Ladies Secretary as Pat Mac was standing down after 8 years service, Pat was presented with a bouquet and a £25 M&S voucher as a small token of our thanks. The two Committee vacancies were filled by Carole Chapple and Pauline Penna. The outgoing Lady Captain Jane Hollis received a beautiful glass plaque designed by Natalie Wright who had also made all the pieces for the Lady Captains Day prizes. With business concluded for another year the evening was rounded off by a delicious dinner with a glass of wine provided by the Lady Captain.
Saturday 19th saw the traditional "Putt Out" and "Drive-In", which included a new element to the Putt Out by the introduction of a Wobbly Ball much to everyone’s amusement! Convinced that she had broken Muriel’s putter the outgoing Captain Jane Hollis still managed to putt out in two. The Lady Captain Liz Plechowicz then took to the first tee where she drove the first ball of her Captaincy a magnificent 175 yards. Winning the £50 sweepstake was Pat Law.
The last fun competition in October was a Texas Scramble; winners were Ro Lowson, Amanda East and Linda Toy, 2nd Carol Ryder, Jane Hollis and Heather Tinder and 3rd Rosemary Wedlock, Trish Hosking and Amy Butt.
At the meeting of the General Committee on 30th September it was agreed that all Club Vouchers can now be used in one of three ways:
1. Over the Bar.
2. In the Pro shop, as part payment for goods/services or put on your account.
3. Handed in to the Office to be used towards payment of yearly subscription fees.
Recently the Ladies Committee was asked to consider making a "gesture" towards expenses for those ladies playing in League Matches. After discussion it was agreed that from next season a contribution would be made towards the League Teas. If the travelling distance is over 100 miles the contribution will be 100% of the cost of the League Tea, less than 100 miles but over 50 miles the contribution will be 50% and under 50 miles no contribution will be made. A table with full details will soon be on the notice board.
As you know Katie Rule is our new Assistant Pro and has been spending a lot of her time playing in tournaments around the County and further afield. From November her playing schedule reduces dramatically and she would love to play on Tuesdays with the Ladies – medals, stablefords and fun competitions, she is happy to play with anyone so when you are signing up for something think of Katie and ask her to play.
OUT AND ABOUT
Christine Williams was part of the victorious Cornwall Ladies Senior Team playing at Saunton Golf Club in the Jamboree event against rival Counties from the South West. Chris remained unbeaten with 3½ wins from the four matches that she contested.
