The week ended on a high for the host club as Tehidy Park recorded an empahtic win in the B Team Championship over opponents St. Austell, to give Club Captain, Simon Gregor the 'A' Team / 'B' Team double (to add to the CTC & Frank Wills victories earlier in the year).
Leading out the B Team once again was the pairing of Martin 'Bonny' Langford & Colin 'Chicken' George who wasted no time at all in dispatching their opposition on the 12th green (7&6). Not to be outdone the middle pairing of Ryan 'Sto' Reed & Tom Rowe also recorded a win on the 12th green, this time by a score of 8&6 ! With the match won the final game involving David O'Mahony & Chris Hoyle agreed to take a halve with their match evenly poised at all square after 11 holes.
A quite amazing 'stat' in that the win provided a victory for Colin George over five separate decades during his time as a member representing Tehidy Park….well done Chick.
The week concluded with Matthew Richards (West Cornwall) securing victory in the Amateur Championship Final over Adam Curtis (Bude) by a score-line of 5&4 in the 36-hole final.
Following the presentation of the respective trophies for the week, Tehidy Park member, and County Captain, Richard Simmons announced his Cornwall Team to play at Royal North Devon in the South West Championship during the week of 8th – 13th June, and the Club is proud to announce that the team includes both Robert MacGregor & Ian Veale (the full line-up can be viewed here http://www.cornwallgolfunion.org.uk/News?newsitem=356
The week was a huge success for Tehidy Park Golf Club in more ways than one. Whilst it is always a great honour for the Club to stage the Championship Week the understanding of the membership is not taken for granted, and we thank you for your patience. Hopefully some of you will have enjoyed the opportunity to play some of our neighbouring Cornish courses, and equally we thank them for their courtesy.
In addition many of you took part in the proceedings; some by way of playing in the daily competitions, and others by helping with the administration of the week, be it ball spotting, starting, assisting the green keepers on Thursday and general assistance to the officials. Thank you 'one & all', your help was appreciated by Competitors, Club & County.
Now then, time to find the Head Green Keeper……Andrew, cut the bl***y rough, and when you find a Pro V1 to the right of the tree in the rough on the 16th it is mine !!
