The Cornwall Team Championship Shield will only be on show in the Clubhouse at Tehidy Park Golf Club for another 5 weeks after the defending champions were comprehensively beaten by a strong Bude Team in their semi-final, which was played at a sun kissed Trevose Golf Club.
Tehidy were gifted the three-quarters of a point for the ninth man singles game when one of the Bude players was unable to play through illness, but it proved to be a false dawn for Tehidy as the remainder of the Bude Team dominated proceedings.
Bude took control of the foursomes, taking lunch with a 3 – 1 lead, with notable wins over the Tehidy pairings of Robert MacGregor & Ross Lawrance, and Ian Veale & Tom Rowe, both pairs being defeated for the first time in three years of playing together.
MacGregor addressed his morning defeat with a win at the top of te singles order, but when Conor Jenkins defeated County Captain Richard Simmons a two-point lead was re-established.
Playing at number five & six respectively in the singles order there was heavy defeats for Andrew Clotworthy and Martin Langford to leave the score-line at 6 – 2 in Budes favour, and more importantly within half of a point of a famous victory.
Whilst Peter Simmons was playing the 18th hole with a one-hole lead, keeping hopes alive, they were to be dashed when news filtered through that Ian Veale was two-down standing on the 17th tee, therefore guaranteeing Bude the half point they required.
Bude will play Trevose in the Final on 22 March at Newquay after Trevose overcame a spirited Perranporth team.
