Day 3 of the Ladies Championship at Trevose Golf Club commenced with a cold, and ever strengthening northerly wind, which would test the competitors in the respective semi-finals.
Tehidy Park interest centred on the semi-final of the Plate competition, which involved Katie Sandow against Dawn Emmerson (Perranporth). Katie raced out of the blocks, winning the first three holes with regulation pars. With holes exchanged for the remainder of the front nine the score still stood at 3 up to Katie on the 10th tee. A Par 5 at the long 10th hole increased the advantage to 4 holes, a score-line that was to remain as the ladies took to the tee on the Par 5, 13th.
Dawn claimed the 13th with a birdie, and pars on the following two holes for Dawn would reduce the deficit to a one-hole lead for Katie, and jangling nerves amongst the ever present Tehidy Park ladies support crew. The ‘rot was stopped’ for Katie as both players made a par three on the short 16th, before taking on the treacherous 17th hole where a brave approach commands a second shot over water ! Dawn was forced to lay up from her drive, before Katie sent her approach shot with a wedge to within 15 feet of the hole. Dawn’s pitch was played to a point just through the green, but a superb putt to within 2 inches of the hole secured a five. Katie now faced a fast downhill putt on the superb putting surface that Trevose are blessed with, and managed to lag the putt to within a foot of the hole, which was subsequently converted to secure a 2&1 win and a place in the final against Olivia Trewhela, who defeated Lyn Saget on the 18th hole.
Well done Katie, and rest assured the green army will be out in force supporting again tomorrow.
The Championship Final (36 Holes) will be contested by Georgia Price and Emily Wilson, with the final of the Advanced Plate (18 Holes) also taking place between Jan Sargeant and Michelle Burgess.
