County Championship – Newquay

The Tehidy Park contingent returned an 80% success rate on qualifying day, as four of the five players progressed to the Match Play stages of the County Championship, being played at Newquay Golf Club.

Breezy conditions throughout the day kept the scores in check, and by the end of the day it was Robert MacGregor who claimed the top spot with scores of 71 & 69 for a two over par total of 140.

Justin Barnard (74,72), Richard Simmons (County Champion at Newquay in 1984, 72, 74) and brother Peter Simmons (76, 73) all made it through, as Club mate Andrew Clotworthy was the sole casualty when the cut for the top 32 players fell at 153.
