Club Captain David Ryder will travel to Madeira a happy man as his Cornwall Bowl Team secured their berth in the Semi-Final following a hard fought win over The Point at Polzeath in a match played at a windy Perranporth Golf Club.
The first point of the day went the way of Tehidy Park as the pairing of Dale Band & David Bailey won on the 16th hole (4&2). Dale will be delighted with his victory given that he had a ticket to watch his team, Liverpool (boo!) take on the green army of Plymouth Argyle at Anfield in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. (Don’t worry Dale, I’m sure the Plymothians will make you feel welcome at Home Park for the replay !!)
The Point at Polzeath would restore parity in the match by winning the next point up for grabs, beating the previously unbeaten pairing of Vince Barton & Tony Barbagallo.
However, team captain, David Collins and his partner Steve Rogers would restore the lead for Tehidy Park with a win of their own, again on the 16th hole (4&2), which was followed by a match winning performance from Phil Robbins & Malcolm Bennetts, who shook hands with their opposition on the 12th hole, winning 7&6 !
With the match won (3-1) the final game on the course, in fact the first game to tee-off would shake hands for half a point each, and an overall result in favour of Tehidy Park by 3.5 – 1.5.
Tehidy Park will now play Whitsand Bay, who defeated St. Mellion on the weekend of 4th/5th February at a venue yet to be confirmed.
