The coldest day of the autumn so far saw Tehidy Park’s Frank Wills’ team see off a resilient St Mellion side at a windswept Point at Polzeath – but only just.
With the pairings of Nigel & Brian James and Dale Band & Justin Harrington holding seemingly unassailable leads, and David Bailey & Graham Elliott and Andrew Teuton & Jordan Harvey looking unlikely to rein their opponents in, all eyes turned to the Scott Downing/ Danny Chambers match.
Downing & Chambers were nip and tuck with their opponents until the St Mellion pair missed short putts on holes 15 and 16 to hand the game to Tehidy Park. However, Tehidy Park’s victory celebrations were cut short after it transpired that the James brothers’ big lead had been whittled away, and their match was going up the 18th. Thankfully, the experienced pairing rediscovered their form to pinch the hole and send Tehidy Park into the second round, where they will face Newquay at a venue to be confirmed on the weekend of 24/25 November 2018.
A big thanks to all the players and caddies.
