CTC Semi-Final

The cliche ‘a game of two halves’ belonged to the weather today as the players of Tehidy Park and St. Enodoc started the morning foursomes in a 30 mph wind and constant mizzle.

Honours were shared at two points a piece after the foursomes, and despite Tehidy Park gaining the advantage, courtesy of a win from Alex Hinds in the 9th man singles match, St. Enodoc would no doubt be the happier team taking lunch having fought hard for halves in the top two matches, having been 2-down in both in the latter stages.

As the weather improved so did the form of the St. Enodoc players as one by one they set about their task. Although Rob MacGregor took the opening point for Tehidy Park when he defeated Dave Lupton the next four points would all go the way of the North Cornwall club.

Two-time past County Champion, Steve Chapman used all his experience in defeating Tehidy Park rookie Josh Chapman. Jack Irwin beat Ian Veale on the 17th after Veale three-putted both the 14th & 17th. Josh Greenaway gained the early impetus against Peter Simmons and never let go in winning on the 16th, and when Guy Hovil defeated Richard Simmons on the 18th it left St. Enodoc requiring just half a point more from the final three games.

This was duly delivered by Mike Masters when he beat James Barnard. Small consolation for Tehidy Park came in the form of a halved match for Matt Lock against Ian Jolliff and a win for Justin Barnard over Steve Buse….. but the final tale of the tape was a 7.5 – 5.25 victory for St. Enodoc who will now face North Cornwall neighbours Trevose in the final to be played at Perranporth on 15 March.
