The Cornwall Golf Union is delighted to be once again staging its Annual Dinner which will take place at The Hotel Bristol, Newquay on Friday 19th November 2021, 6.45 for 7.30pm. The cost of the dinner is £25 and the CGU wish to see all of our 29 affiliated clubs represented. Attached to this email is a poster outlining details of the dinner and in particular the Guest Speaker Josh Boggi. Josh was two months into his third tour of Afghanistan in 2010, when he stood on a Pressure Pad Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which triggered beneath him, resulting in the loss of both his legs and his right arm. Since then, he has gone on to compete in the inaugural Invictus Games in London where he won a Bronze medal in the Cycling Time Trial. ‘Bodge’, one of his nicknames, then went on to compete in the 2016 Games in Orlando, taking home 2 Silver Medals in Cycling and 2 Gold Medals in Rowing. Josh is described as humbling and inspirational, the very definition of motivational speaking with a terrific sense of humour as you will discover. Listening to Josh promises to be a pleasure as he outlines his mantra – choices and commitment, adapt and overcome. Golf will be available on the day by kind permission of Newquay GC. The cost of this will be £15 and tee times must be booked through the club. This is an important event in the County golf programme and a time to celebrate, but most importantly catch up with friends and rivals from far and wide. The invitation is open to all members. If you would like to attend, please either reply to this email, or contact reception. Payment must be made in advance so that we can forward to the County Secretary prior to the event. Andrew Clotworthy (County President) has been a member of Tehidy Park Golf Club since he was 12!

Having won his first match in charge of the Cornwall Bowl team last weekend, it was sadly to be the taste of defeat this weekend for new Club Captain, David Ryder, as the Frank Wills Salver team lost out to a Mullion side that handled the ‘sometimes’ gale force winds better, in a first round match played at Falmouth.

- David O’Mahony & Chris Hoyle lost 2&1
- Martyn Churchill & Mark Prouse won 1 Up
- Ryan Curnow & Andrew Teuton lost 3&1
