Tehidy Park is an 18-hole parkland course, par 71 and about 6,241 yards off the medal tees, with a standard scratch score of 70. It is a course where accuracy from the tee is rewarded more than raw power. Three lakes, streams, tree-lined fairways, and out of bounds on nine of the eighteen holes set the test.
Parkland, not links
Most of Cornwall’s best-known golf faces the sea. Tehidy turns inland. Laid out within the parkland of the Basset Estate, it is wooded, sheltered, and composed, the antithesis of an exposed coastal links. On a windy day, that shelter is the difference between a pleasant round and a fight.
The character of the round
The course mixes open holes with tree-lined ones, streams that come into play at strategic points, and three lakes that carry real weight on the closing holes. Since 1999 thousands of young trees have been planted, and as they mature the fairways will tighten further.
Two holes to know
The signature short hole is a 193-yard par 3 that asks for a carry of close to 170 yards over the lakes from the medal tee. Nothing about it is optional. The 15th, a 443-yard par 4, is the longest and hardest hole on the course, and the only real climb on an otherwise walkable layout.
Who it suits
Tehidy is a good, fair test. It challenges a low handicap without punishing a higher one out of the game. Position matters more than distance, so a straight hitter who plots a way round will score better here than a long, wild one.
